Lemon Grove Historical Society

The Lemon Grove Historical Society has an important track record in historic preservation, and takes pride in working with other preservation organizations in San Diego County. Our sister societies do heroic work to save and document local histories. We believe the following organizations deserve special applause.

San Diego Museum Council

The Lemon Grove Historical Society is proud to be the newest member of the San Diego Museum Council.  The Council traces its roots to Balboa Park in the 1920s, they brought together the directors of museums to discuss topics of interest, work collaboratively on programs and solve common issues.  Now with a membership of more than 40 museums from all over San Diego county, they provide support services in resource networking, professional education, and collaborative marketing.  The Council presents three annual signature programs: Museum Month in February, The Big Exchange in May, and Kids Free in October, while also offering additional community-oriented programs and events aimed at providing museum access for all.

Congress of History of San Diego & Imperial Counties

This organization, whose motto is “Unity and Joint Effort,” has promoted the history of our region for more than half a century. Its annual, two-day conference held on the first weekend in March makes prestigious annual awards and brings together scholars to examine aspects of specific themes. A notable example is “San Diego and the Great War” (2017), marking the centennial of America’s entry into WW I COH is a membership organization.

San Diego History Center (SDHC)

Founded in 1928 by San Diego civic leader George Marston, SDHC has assembled vast collections of photographs, documents, artifacts, furnishings, clothing and ephemera related to San Diego’s story. Its beautiful museum in Balboa Park features imaginative, revolving exhibits. Its biannual newsletter features this-minute information, and its many public programs draw history buffs from far and near.
